Conversation 6.1: Expanding Relationality from a More-than-Human Perspective

June 18 | 5:45 pm - 7:00 pm

Discussion of Full Papers 1111 and 1238 from Full Paper Session 6 and Exploratory Papers (listed below). In this 19th edition of the PDC, Full and Exploratory papers will be organized into Conversations, that is, experimental formats of presentation and discussion of the papers based on triggering questions and authors’ interactions.

Full Papers:

  • 1111: What counts – Thinkering with Visual Mapping Toward Relational More than Human Temporality in Participatory Design.
    Author: Zohar, Hadas.
  • 1238: Digesting Östersjön Data.
    Authors: Wilde, Danielle; Karyda, Mary.

Exploratory Papers:

  • 1262: Grammars of Kinship: Designing Relational Coexistence through Language.
    Author: Dhaundiyal, Dhriti.
  • 1407: Multidimensional Participatory Design Approach in Strategic Policymaking: Lessons from the Design Process for the EU Intergenerational Fairness Strategy.
    Author: Malesinska, Marta.
  • 1604: Clouds May Be Past Farms and Future Rivers.
Authors: Kozak, Weronika Zuzanna; Wen, Xinquan; Huybrechts, Liesbeth.

The discussion will be guided by the following questions prepared by the Chairs:

  • Q1: How does your research move beyond human-centered models of participation to account for distributed, emergent, and more-than-human forms of agency, where relationality is understood as an ontological condition rather than a metaphor?
  • Q2: In what ways does your research challenge dominant assumptions of linear temporality, extractive governance, and subject/object or nature/culture divides, and what ethical and methodological implications do these shifts create for designing with multispecies, intergenerational, and ecological entanglements?
